Witch Hazel

My witch hazel bush is blooming for the first time.  I planted this thing years and years ago, and it's still barely hip-high.  The flowers turned out to be tiny, muddy-yellow cups instead of the bright yellow tassels I was expecting.  Ah well.  Perhaps some other time I will try again to get a showier witch hazel bush.

The link for muddy yellow cups took me to a site that denied access. Says the proprietor does not allow hotlinking.
It worked for me, but I've tried replacing it with a different image now. Try again.
Any chance the cups are a bud-form that will extend into the tassels?
Maybe, or maybe the petals already fell off, though it didn't particularly look that way. But there are many different kinds of witch hazel. Some have quite flashy pom-poms or streamers while others have short boring petals. This is one that I got as a seedling for about $2. The named varieties are considerably more expensive. What I'd really like is one of the scarlet ones, but those are hopelessly out of my price range.
