In Which I Am Deep-Fried Writer

I didn't mean to ignore the whole fascinating conversation about poetry; I will return to it if at all possible. But my day went like this...

Got up with story idea in head. Idea contained radically alien worldview, interesting characters, and insight on an old quandary.
Ate breakfast while glancing at email.
Debated over whether to write story. Giant mountain of obligations vs. really cool idea + fiction writing is on 2008 Goal List.
Story won. Yay for "Nirvana Moon."
Story is stickier than a tarbaby in June. Fell into story, plot synopsis, and Tibetan language research. Felt so good to be working on fiction.
Surfaced an hour past lunchtime. Tummy cranky, body and knees screaming blue murder.
Ate lunch while brain continued to churn vigorously.
Dove back into story. Revel revel revel.
Surfaced when partner knocked on door and inquired as to the whereabouts of supper. Time: hour after usual suppertime. Tummy cranky again, body and knees welded into solid mass.
Made supper. Ate. Forced self to take break on couch. Was TV on? Don't remember.
Waded somewhat more carefully back into story. Finished initial batch of background material. Realized tummy was getting cranky yet again and went back to couch. Carefully nibbled on safe foods and fooled around with sewing until tummy was well and truly settled. Made cup of chamomile tea.
Determined to finish one actual scene sketch. Did that. Total word count: 5085.
No wonder I'm fried.

Oh ... yeah ... I have an email account that I haven't checked since breakfast. And a LiveJournal full of cool conversation too. Riiiiiiight ...

I love you all. But if I want my body to talk to me in the morning, there is a very limited amount that I can do tonight. So now you know where went with me all day, at a time when I would logically have been expected to be available.

See now I have a mental image of your story leaning back against the pillows, smoking a clichéd cigarette and drawling "was it good for you too, shweetheart?"

See you when you've recovered somewhat.
That is one bizarre image.

Ironically the answer is probably yes, at least for the scout. Though I'm resistant to my partner's suggestion of introducing him to a couple of my characters from another world. That way lies emotional mayhem. If the fuzzy little bugger wants an introduction to the cool people across the floor, I'm ducking out the back door.
Having kids makes devoting that much time in one day to writing nearly impossible for me. Though I sometimes dream of spending 8 hour days writing, my mountian of obilgations tends to win out when it opens it's mouth and says, "Mommy, I love you! Can you get off the computer now?". LOL

I understand if you aren't around on, you have a life outside of LJ just like everyone else!

The reason that fiction is on my official task list this year is because, if I don't write it at least occasionally, bad things happen. The pressure builds up and tends to spurt out sideways at inopportune moments. It's much safer to channel it in constructive directions before that happens. I suspect from the intensity of yesterday that I let it go too long, again, because I've been desperately writing to put beans on the table -- which means nonfiction and poetry.

I have some control over my creative talent. I can steer it to a certain extent. But I cannot turn it off and just leave it off, no matter what else is going on. It makes life interesting.
I know exactly what you mean about "leaving your talent turned off" and having it build up and pop. I get like that at times too, but I don't think my husband gets it. He see me "playing" on the computer wasting time. It's a dificult thing to balance, even when you don't have ADD.
You, mrs, are in the zone. Isn't it great? :)
Blessed be for new ideas and making time to play with them!

I'm right with ya on the "body screaming blue murder" part...which is why I will be visiting my massage therapist today. Grrr, stoopid myofascial pain syndrome! :-P

Here's to hoping that your body will let you get back to what sounds like a very promising piece of fiction!
Writing while you have the idea in your head is a good thing. The gestalt of the characters & story & all can be REALLY hard to recover if you don't write while you have it, or at least it's that way for me.

Sleep is good too...I should go do that.
I just realized: probably one of the most important things in life is being around the people you love ...

Paris Hilton doesn't think so ... did you see her last video? She is realy NUDE! I saw this video on BBC today!

Crazy people around us!
