Poem: "Dark as Night, Bright as Day" - The Wordsmith's Forge

Poem: "Dark as Night, Bright as Day"

While working on my poetry records, I realized that DW user serpentine is a new prompter.  So, you get another poem, based on one of Serpentine's prompts.

Dark as Night, Bright as Day

Some nights she stays at home.

Other nights, she puts up her black hair with silver pins
so that it looks quite short, dons a black silk hat
and fine woolen robes, pulls on her boots
and goes walking.

Nobody dares to stand in the way,
murmuring, "Dark Lord,"
as they bow low and step aside.
The cane clicks ominously on the cobblestones.

Some days she stays at home.

Other days, she washes the dye from her red hair
and lets it swing free, dresses herself in white satin
with jewels of ruby and topaz, ties up her sandals
and goes walking.

People scurry to open doors for her,
curtseying with a quick, "Bright Lady,"
as she scatters blessings with a blithe hand.
Even the birds sing as she goes by.

She always watches for sunrise and sunset.

Her time is this time, twice a day,
whenever the sun is low on the horizon,
when she can slip off her garments
to be simply and only who she is.

Twin spirits cuddle beneath her skin and smile
at the melting clouds and dimly blazing sky.
The Dark Lord and the Bright Lady are one flesh
but only the silent sun will ever know.
