Re: Thank you!

>>That gives me an idea, actually. I might post the oldest volume for free, one(s) in the middle as pay-what-you-want, and the most recent one or two at a fixed price.<<

Sounds like a good idea if you use Smashwords. Some people browse for free books, and while it's possible to download a pay-what-you-want book for free, they don't show up in listings of free books, so having one actually free might catch a few eyeballs.

>>That's far more convenient if you want to read that series -- even if the same poems are all in the full-year collection.<<
Yep, if the big collection is sorted like you describe, I could imagine buying a favourite series collection to read them in order easily.

That's good to know. I figured that people would search for freebies if there was an easy way to do that. Since I have multiple volumes to consider posting, I can probably afford to give one away -- much like posting a free poem for each fishbowl. I figure the chance of gaining fans and making additional sale is high; my writing tends to be flypaper for eyeballs.

Re: Thank you!

Ah, one thing I forgot to mention for consideration is: In which channels do you want to be distributed? Amazon as far as I know has no pay-what-you-want option, but does have a price matching clause, so they'd probably set such a book to free.

Re: Thank you!

I'm flexible about channels of distribution, depending on which ones seem advantageous. Amazon might wind up getting just the ones with fixed prices.

It's worth mentioning that while Smashwords will allow the set-your-own-price option, doing that will prevent your book from being distributed to other major affiliates/channels like B&N, because they don't allow that option and will kick back anything set that way.

Thank you!

Your verse of "With Mortal Flesh and Iron Will" is up -- just 2 more left before it's finished.

Yes, that's helpful. Will B&N accept free books? I'm leaning towards having the oldest volume(s) available free, middle set-your-own-price, and latest back issue with a standard price. Current volume(s) would be reserved for the donors.

B&N does do free, yes. :)

Okay...

That's good to know, thanks.
