Other More Risky Options

When the safe rational option is made unavailable to people, they tend to resort to other more risky options.  This case concerns abortion.  But you know what?  That really refers to all kinds of health care these days.  Many people simply can't afford it or are refused it.  So they try something else.  Maybe an alternative remedy.  Maybe something they heard a rumor about.  Maybe something they bought from who-knows-where.

A society that drives people to do this is sick and wrong, and pouring sugar in its own gas tank.

Or- extend this principle to everyone.

If it is legal to force women to go through a risky medical procedure entirely for the sake of another and not themselves- the fetus- then we ought to be seeing laws that force everyone to go though things like bone marrow and kidney donations, just because someone else might die without that. It's the same principle... except the donation thing would also apply to men.

So- let's do that! And then we can have a sane discussion about whether or not the state has the right to require one to go through a painful and risky medical procedure entirely for someone else's benefit, without misogyny getting in the way. (I'd vote no, myself.)
Best not show anybody the size of a bone marrow extraction needle before you make it manditory that everyone submit to bone marrow donor tests. I remember seeing one years ago--they were huge back then! (Don't know if they still use such big ones though.)

One thing that really gets my goat is that there are plenty of young women who KNOW by age 21 that they don't want to become mothers--ever--but just try to get your tubes tied at that age!
You'll look half of forever before you find a doctor willing to do that on such a young woman. Heck, for that matter, try finding one willing to do it on a 30 year old woman.
