Poem: "A Vicious Circle of Influence"

This poem came out of the September 7, 2021 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired and sponsored by Shirley Barrette. It also fills the "Confidence / Insecurities" square in my 9-1-21 card for the Platonic Love Fest Bingo.

"A Vicious Circle of Influence"

Leaders and followers:
you can't have one without
the other, because each is
created by its opposite.

They egg each other on,
sometimes for the better,
more often for the worse.

It's a vicious circle of influence.

People often choose leaders
who are older than themselves,
believing -- rightly or wrongly --
that older means wiser.

They create an interplay
of confidence and insecurities,
looking to each other for what
they should find in themselves.

They have forgotten how
to sit down together and listen
for the still small voice of truth.

Magpie Monday

[personal profile] dialecticdreamer is hosting Magpie Monday with a theme of "Breaking through confusion." Leave prompts, get ficlets! Boosting the signal increases the wordcount.

If we reach a total of $150 in tips, that’s at least 7,500 words. In return, I’ll double that word count by posting a story called “Building Family,” which is next in the story arc for Octavio. (It fits the theme particularly well because he’s not the only character feeling overwhelmed!)

Monday Update 9-13-21

These are some posts from the later part of last week in case you missed them:
Played With Hard
Poem: "The Year of Release"
Community Building Tip: Housing
Kea Invents Prosthetic Beak
Coping Skills: Gratitude

Poetry in Microfunding:

There are two open epics at present.

"Rainshadow Road" belongs the Daughters of the Apocalypse series. It discusses herbalism.

"A Celebration and a Consolation" belongs to Polychrome Heroics. Keira comforts her mother after the breakup.

The weather has been mild here.  Seen at the birdfeeders this week: a flock of house finches, a flock of mourning doves, a lady cardinal, and a squirrel. Currently blooming: morning glories, nasturtium, cup plant, black-eyed Susan, Queen Anne's lace, petunia, zinnias, marigolds, spiderwort, cypress vine, sedum, some yellow thing amidst the big bluestem, wild sunflowers.

Poem: "First Give Something in Charity"

This poem is spillover from the September 7, 2021 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired by a prompt from [personal profile] curiosity. It also fills the "Sharing" square in my 9-1-21 card for the Platonic Love Fest Bingo. This poem has been sponsored by Anthony & Shirley Barrette. It belongs to the Aquariana thread of the Polychrome Heroics series.

Today is sunny and warm with a breeze.

I fed the birds.  I've seen house finches.

I gathered wildflower seeds from the wildflower garden and planted them in the prairie garden.

EDIT 9/13/21 -- I did some trimming around the purple-and-white garden.

EDIT 9/13/21 -- I did more trimming around the purple-and-white garden.
