Welcome to Winterfaire 2011
The Winterfaire spreads out as far as the eye can see. Some booths show streamers of red and green, while others sport blue and silver. All of them offer treasure after shining treasure. Music fills the air with lyrics of Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanzaa, Solstice, and Yule. From the Wordsmith's Forge comes the bright chiming of words being hammered into literature. Delicious scents of hot chocolate, spiced cider, peppermint, baking cookies, and gingerbread tantalize the appetite. Smiling, laughing shoppers amble from booth to booth with lists in hand. Vendors grin back, calling out, "Come try, come buy...!"

I know a lot of artists, writers, musicians, crafters, and other talented folks who make some of their living from their creative endeavors. I don't always have the money to support them as much as I'd like, but what I can do is set up a virtual faire where vendors can offer their wares to an audience that likes crafts, literature, and small businesses. For those of you doing your holiday shopping, here's an opportunity to buy something made with love, something unusual or unique, in a way that helps make it possible for creative people to go on creating wonders. And there will be no traffic jams, stampedes, or gunfights at the Winterfaire!

Vendors: If you have goods or services suitable for holiday gifts, please put up a booth by replying with a description of what you sell, an estimate of your price range if possible, and some kind of contact information so shoppers can reach you.  If you have a website (Etsy, DeviantArt, personal, whatever) showcasing your work in more detail, include the link(s).  If you have holiday freebies, such as downloadable greeting card imagery, you're welcome to promote those too. For ease of identification, I recommend titling your reply starting with "BOOTH:" followed by the name of your business or type of goodies.

Shoppers: If you're looking for something specific and it's not posted yet, feel free to ask. Someone else may know where to find it! "SHOPPING FOR:" and the topic would be a good title.

Everyone: You may help promote the Winterfaire by linking to this post from your own blog or site. If you have a similar holiday-networking post, you may link to it in a comment on this post.

Participation Perk: I'm offering poetry for participation, beginning with verses of "All in the Family" from the Monster House series.  If that runs out, I may pick another.  Then came "Gallery of Souls" and "Wipeout." First three poems are complete! Currently open: "With Mortal Flesh and Iron Will." Because, you see, all of these activities will unlock a verse each time someone does them:
* link to this Winterfaire page to boost the signal
* comment posting a Booth of your wares/services in the Winterfaire
* buy something from a vendor listed in the Winterfaire
* host a similar holiday market in your own blog or other venue
LiveJournal will notify me of comments to this post and links to it elsewhere on LJ; for everything else, you need to TELL ME in order to get credit for it.

SHOPPING FOR: decorative writing quills

I once purchased a quill from a wonderful artist named Kelsi Dick, who ran The Brilliant Quill. Unfortunately, it seems her shop is no longer in business so I thought I'd ask about quills here.

The one I purchased from Kelsi was dyed green with hand-painted silver designs on the feather and Swarovski crystals attached. I don't want this exact "model" again but it does describe the type of product I'm looking for. Is there anyone around who makes this sort of thing?

Thanks for your consideration!

Hi I'm ~M~ and I custom make scrapbooks on any theme.

A typical mini album is here.

That size will run you about $20 plus the cost of printing your photos (which you can send to me digitally). I also have small accordion albums for $15, which will highlight 6-10 photos on a theme.

I do have one premade baby girl album, but no photos of it handy. If you'd like something custom, well it takes some time to make so hop on it!

Booth: Coloring books and other printed goodies

For a unique 'under $10' gift for the fantasy fan in your life, don't under-estimate coloring books for grown-ups! http://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/coloringbooks.php

12 titles are available (and one sold out!) - spanning specific topics like steampunk, goddesses, pirates, mermaids, dragons, fairies and fantasy horses, songbird-based gryphons, dark fantasy/horror and more. These are highly-detailed collections, printed single-sided.

In addition to one coloring book title, the Torn World shared world project has also published an anthology collection of short stories, poetry, meta-fiction and illustrations. A great introduction to our world, which is an open playground for writers and artists! http://www.tornworld.net/publications.php

For all artists and writers, the EMG-Zine print anthologies are an invaluable resource. Hysterical, serious and frightening by turn, these books are straight-forward dirt from the artists and writers in the trenches, and bound to become dog-eared favorites. Topics include the business of art, full color walkthroughs, tutorials, discussion about self-publishing, pricing art, work for hire contracts, dealing with art directors, maximizing your workspace and minimizing your footprint on the earth, licensing, burn-out, time management, and much, much more. (Volume 1 also includes fiction and a full-color artwork gallery!) http://emg-zine.com/anthologies.php

Purchasing EMG-Zine print anthologies will additionally keep our free monthly 'zine going!

Additionally, I have cheap out-of-print calendars and oracle decks available at my Amazon store.

I'm happy to combine shipping - including on items only shown in my Amazon store - just contact me with your desires! I am also willing to barter for clean used baby things in good shape, character portraits, or sweet things.

BOOTH: sparkles, fuzzies, and more!

I make lots of different things, sometimes compulsively, and I've got a big list of them up on my personal LJ! All the items are priced as shown (and most are pretty dang inexpensive, I just have to say), and there's information there about how to contact me if you want something.

In addition, I'm open for doing custom pieces -- just ask! I'm very friendly.

Thank you so much!

Re: BOOTH: Clare's Garden of Prose

Thank you for posting a booth in the Winterfaire! I have opened a new perk poem and uploaded your verse:
http://ysabetwordsmith.livejournal.com/2023350.html

As for the booth descriptions -- that's part of what makes my holiday market unique. Lots of people do these blogthings now. I want mine to capture the spirit of fun that used to suffuse the open holiday markets before malls took over the world, when you could still see people sitting in their booths spinning, binding books, ladling mulled cider out of kettles, etc.

I've added two more verses for the DW and Plurk, since I already posted one for the LJ link. Let me know when you do the Twitter and FB -- those are good for more verses.

In a small, brightly-coloured pavilion, stands a cat. He's large, orange, and on a leash, and he doesn't seem to mind that last part at all; he greets everyone who comes into the booth, and, in fact, anyone who even walks nearby.

He's not what's for sale (people have offered, though).

As you get closer, wonderful scents emerge -- cinnamon and clove, peppermint and tea tree, patchouli and vanilla. The shelves are stacked with bars of soap, bottles of oils, and jars of salts and scrubs.

Om Shanti Naturals. Crap free. Guaranteed.
ysabetwordsmith From: ysabetwordsmith Date: December 1st, 2011 02:21 am (UTC) (Link)

Ooo...

*sniff sniff* I love natural soaps. I note that you have some scent combinations that I haven't encountered before, like the Lime-Rosemary, that seem quite promising.

Oh! Poetry! Right, pry nose away from soaps and go post verses. You have 4 counting this booth and your signal boosting. *grin* Look at them closely: I think you'll be amused by the synchronicity.
