May 9th, 2020

Today is sunny and mild.

I fed the birds.  Lots of sightings today -- a goldfinch, a rose-breasted grosbeak, a red-bellied woodpecker, several cardinals.  I saw a red-winged blackbird preening after a bath and got a great view of the red and yellow feathers.  :D

We picked up the sticks from yesterday's branch cutting, enough to fill a dumpster, and I still have the bigger bits to carry in for kindling.

Later I went back out and planted 3 beebalm in the wildflower garden.  I also transplanted some purple coneflowers and yellow coneflowers from the yard to the garden.

My poppies have buds and are about to bloom.  \o/

EDIT 5/9/20 -- Round Three, I planted a Giant Kiowa Blackberry in the patch by the prairie garden.  Several blackberries planted in recent years have survived to leaf out.  :D  There are also lots of older ones still scattered around.

EDIT 5/9/20 -- Round Four, we went out after supper and lit the giant pile of brush in the firepit.  Took a while to start because we've had so much rain, but it was full, so we had to try.  Much of the brush burned off.  The stack of fuel logs didn't light, though.  We'll clean it up tomorrow.

Also, our lawnmower is back from the tuneup!  We can start mowing the now-thigh-high grass.

Poem: "Drake's Evasion"

This poem was written outside the regular prompt calls, inspired by my post about some science articles and a discussion with [personal profile] kengr. It also fills the "WILD CARD: Deliverance" square in my 1-1-20 card for the Less Usual Bingo Patterns fest. This poem has been sponsored by Anthony & Shirley Barrette.

Today's Smoothie

Today we made a smoothie with:

1 cup Ceres guava juice blend
1 cup Yoplait vanilla yogurt
1/2 cup pineapple chunks and juice
1/2 cup frozen strawberries
a splash of Imperial Dragon coconut milk
1/2 cup ice

This one is bright pink, rich and creamy.  It has a sweet tropical taste with the strawberry predominating.  The sweet pineapple and guava balance out the sour strawberries very well.

Imperial Dragon coconut milk solidifies in the fridge, but it's like shortening, not like concrete.  As this brand also has a great flavor, it's a good choice.
