President Obama Shops for Books

... with his daughters, at an independent bookstore. Somebody just made Santa's Good Boy list.  Support small business!  It's where the jobs actually are.

And I think it's a safe bet he actually reads the books he's photographed holding.
But even if he doesn't,
he is at least sufficiently literate to hold the book right side up.
Yea, verily!
That he visits a bookstore of any sort impresses me a lot more than previous White House residents who seemed to have no time for books. As stated before, he's the first president we've had who seems to come from the same country as me.
I agree, Presidents who read are desirable.
We used to have Presidents who wrote for National freakin' Geographic. We had a President who was a schoolteacher. It's part of why I fell so hard for the Obama campaign in 2008. After having to live with the consequences of an anti-intellectual rich jackass... as a follow up to a merely conventional rich jackass... as a follow up to a fairly smart drug lord... as a follow up to a senile rich moron, it was amazing to listen to Obama and think "wow. This guy is way smarter than me." And while I don't really like Obama all that much, I still think he's smarter than I am.
I voted for Obama as damage control. I'm confident that he's done less damage than his opponents would have done. He's also done some pretty cool things, although he hasn't stood up to the plutocrats as much as I'd like.

The thing that impressed me? When he was little, his mother got him up at 3 AM to study, because that was all the time they had for it. I got up at 5 AM for the last two years of high school, to go to a better school. President Obama is the only other person I've heard mention getting up even more insanely early than I did in pursuit of an education. I'm sure other people have done it, but it's rare.
