Feathering the Nest

[personal profile] dialecticdreamer is hosting "Feathering the Nest" today. This prompt call is for nonsexual intimacies. Leave prompts, get ficlets!

If readers offer a total of $65 in sponsored stories, I’ll post a bonus story titled “Resolving Troubles.” (A clue to the type of story is in the file name: DeJesus Goes DOWN.) Posting that effectively doubles the word count for readers to enjoy!

Monday Update 7-22-19

These are some posts from the later part of last week in case you missed them:
Sunday Yardening
Poem: "A Brief History of Flight"
Poem: "At Certain Crucial Moments"
Poem: "The Lone Tree"
Creative Jam
Emotional Intimacy Question: Admire
Thursday Yardening
Cuddle Party

Poetry in Microfunding:

There are two open epics.

"Everyone Can Dance" belongs to Polychrome Heroics: Shiv. Shiv realizes a possible catch in the plan.

"Until Someone Lives in Them" belongs to Polychrome Heroics: Fortressa. Penny moves in with the Pit Group and they help refine her fashion designs.

"Like Distant Thunder" opened and closed yesterday.  (I still need to finish posting the last few verses, but they're sponsored.)  It belongs to Path of the Paladins.  Shahana and Ari face a climactic battle.

We got a little rain yesterday. Seen at the birdfeeders this week: a small flock of mourning doves, several house finches, several sparrows, and a pair of cardinals. Currently blooming: violas, petunias, pinks, marigolds, alliums, lantana, torenia, million bells, moss rose, firecracker plant, salvia, nasturtiums, phlox, gaillardia, clover, daylilies, cleome, morning glories, butterfly weed, blackberry lilies, cup plant, yellow coneflower, bergamot, shasta daisy, gladioli, partridge pea, red yarrow, coreopsis, and a bunch of other things. There are a few mulberries left. Blackberries are ripe. Crabapples and apples have green fruit.

Call for Themes

I've reached the end of scheduled themes for the Poetry Fishbowl project. It's time to brainstorm some new themes! These are a few that I've jotted down earlier, ones that I've thought up or people have suggested, to give you an idea what kind of stuff might be suitable:

* Hope
* Hurt/Comfort
* Identity Literature
* Anthropomorphism
* Space Exploration

What other themes would you like to see me write about?  What would you like to buy?  Suggest them in a comment below this post.

Later on I'll collect the suggestions and do some polling. The most popular topics will be added to the schedule for future fishbowls. I'm going to run the first large poll with checkboxes so you can express interest in as many themes as you like. I will then either pick from the most popular ones, or use that information to pull out the favorite themes for a smaller poll to select the ones which will appear in upcoming fishbowls.

You can also help by linking to this post so that more people will see it. Everyone is welcome to suggest themes. Everyone will also be able to vote for them later; prompters and donors will get extra votes. If you link to the call for themes, you can reveal a verse in any open perk poem:
"The Open Gyre"
"Growing Green, Growing Gold"
"Mysterious and Impermanent"
"Greater Than the Sum"
"Nascent Wisdom"
"Where Symbols Had the Power"
"A Lively Feast"
"Between the Normal and the Abnormal"
"Always Carry Your Goodness"
"Crossroads on the Hero's Journey"

Regarding "Netflix and Chill"

Recent discussions have turned up two opposed meanings of the phrase "Netflix and chill."

* Watch television due to feeling too tired or unfocused for anything else.

* Have sex.

I believe that this is an iteration of a much older conflict in which some people use euphemisms such as "Would you like to see my card collection?" to mean "Let's go have sex," whereas other people with special interests like to show off their hoards and view those belonging to others so they use those phrases in the direct meaning.  Such misunderstandings are extremely frustrating to both parties, and in some cases, contribute to sexual assault.

Therefore, if you are using this phrase or hear others using it, and the context involves a choice of action rather than idle conversation, it would be prudent to confirm which definition is meant before deciding.
