Poem: "It Marks You"

This poem is spillover from the April 2, 2019 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired by prompts from [personal profile] alatefeline and [personal profile] gingicat. It also fills the "twice-exceptional" square in my 4-1-19 card for the School Days fest. This poem has been sponsored by [personal profile] janetmiles. It belongs to the Shiv thread of the Polychrome Heroics series.

Feathering the Nest

[personal profile] dialecticdreamer is hosting Feathering the Nest today, your chance to prompt for nonsexual intimacy. Leave prompts, get ficlets!  Boosting the signal gets you more words.  There are also other perks:

The prompt call is great for writing impetus, but it makes a backlog of stories, unless readers offer tips, which is the other reason that I try to get the list of available stories up as quickly as possible. Generally, I call myself a “pennysmith,” estimating a penny a word to post a story immediately and in full. To make it even more fun, if I get a total of $65 in tips between Monday the 27th and the next prompt call, which is Magpie Monday for June tenth, I’ll post a group of short stories which total at least 6500 words. (That’s two-for one fun!)

Good News

The half-price sale in Shiv went pretty well. You can see the poems marked as sold now. I have some of the earlier sponsorships posted but the pool still needs to be done.

Poetry in Microfunding:

There are two open epics.

"Learning the Vocation" belongs to Path of the Paladins. Shahana and company play games in the common room.

"A Cave Swarming with Strange Forms of Life" belongs to Polychrome Heroics: Iron Horses and has 76 new verses. Kenzie and Pretty Ears talk about counseling styles.

Weather here has been warm with a little rain. Seen at the birdfeeders this week: a flock of mourning doves, a small flock of sparrows, a few grackles, two pairs of house finches, two pairs of goldfinches, a pair of cardinals, a brown thrasher, a robin, a gray catbird, an indigo bunting, and a rabbit. Currently blooming: violas, violets, honeysuckle, petunias, pinks, marigolds, alliums, chives, lantana, torenia, million bells, moss rose, firecracker plant, salvia, and a bunch of other new things from the garden center that I haven't even finished planting yet.

Monday Yardening

Today is warm, gray, and breezy.

Round One, I planted two red-flowered strawberries beside the barrel garden.  I planted a Russian sage in the prairie garden.

EDIT 5/27/19: Round Two, today's main focus will be on planting herbs.  I put 2 Thai basil, 2 sweet basil, and 1 pineapple mint in a big square pot; a variegated marjoram in an empty space in another pot; and 2 curly parsley and 2 flat parsley in another big square pot.

There are maple seedlings all the fuck over the place.  In the lawn.  In the pots.  In piles of dead leaves.  It's been so nice and wet that the seeds have plenty of water and the soil is soft, easy to penetrate.  I've been pulling them out by the handful and they just ... keep ...coming. O_O

EDIT 5/27/19: Round Three, I planted 2 cilantro, a dill, and a bronze fennel in a big square pot.  I also put 2 chives in the septic garden.

EDIT 5/27/19: Round Four, I planted chamomile and French Tarragon in the strip garden, sage and chocolate mint in the cistern garden, heuchera and hosta in the forest garden.

I have 5 herbs left to plant, but those will go in the big trough and I don't think I have enough potting soil to fill it.  :/

Today I managed to empty one flat of herbs and most of the other. That leaves two flats of flowers and the 5 herbs.

EDIT 5/27/19: Round Five, I planted morning glories and moonflower around the support wire for the telephone pole.  I also watered the newly planted things and a few others.  As it is now dark, I am done for the night.
