Salt Intake

... has a fairly narrow range, not greatly affected by diet.

I'd be happy if restaurants quit over-salting their food, because I've had some bad experiences with it.  I can't eat things that are too salty; it makes me desperately thirsty until the excess gets flushed out. >_<  Conversely, it takes very little to run down the supply.  When I work outside in warm weather, that little bit of sweating is enough to make me want salt.  I'll come indoors, eat 3 potato chips, and be fine.  Based on my observations of other people, I thought my range was much narrower, but maybe it's not that far off and other people are just less alert to their range.

Anyhow, efforts to minimize sodium in the body by manipulating diet are unlikely to work, as it is not controlled by diet but instead by biochemistry.  I would say, try to avoid excessive  salt, but don't try to force it down artificially low.  Even with excessive salt, it won't stay put -- the body flushes it out.  The documented range is really quite stable.

Magpie Monday

[personal profile] dialecticdreamer is hosting Magpie Monday today with a theme of "Questions." Leave prompts, get ficlets!  Boost the signal to get longer fills.  There are bonus perks too.

If I can earn $65 in tips for the event, I’ll post a Strange Family story of at least five thousand words. First, I’ll have to figure out a title for it… Talk about a tough question! Note that the next planned story is NOT gentle fiction; it focuses on the raids Hatter has organized and will have a list of warnings so readers may decide when or if to read the story.

My parents have sponsored the following poems. I'm still writing, so it may take me a while to get all of them up.

"If Your Actions Inspire Others"
"Designing an Experience"
"Growing Slowly"
"Climbing the Tree of Knowledge"

Poetry in Microfunding:

There are two open epics.

"Learning the Vocation" belongs to Path of the Paladins. Shahana and Ari meet some old acquaintances in Three-Town Fork.

"A Cave Swarming with Strange Forms of Life" belongs to Polychrome Heroics: Iron Horses. Kenzie goes to Pretty Ears for counseling.

Weather here has been mild. It's been raining off and on. Seen at the birdfeeders this week: a small flock of sparrows, a small flock of mourning doves, a small flock of dark-eyed juncos, a small flock of house finches, two pairs of cardinals, a pair of brown thrashers, a male rufous-sided towhee, a female downy woodpecker, a robin, a rabbit, and a squirrel.  I saw a tufted titmouse above the hopper feeder.  They're in the area, but rarely come to our yard anymore.  :D  We also startled a turkey vulture out of the yard!  He flew very close to the car so we got a good look at his bare red head. \o/  Currently blooming: snowdrops, miniature iris, violas, daffodils, Cornelian cherry dogwood, scylla, hyacinths, and purple grape hyacinths.

Monday Yardening

Today is a beautiful spring day, sunny and quite warm.

I saw a tufted titmouse in the forest garden.  :D   We haven't had any here in years.

I went out and took some pictures of flowers and stuff in the yard.

Then I planted 3 privets along the edge of the south lot.  I didn't even have the energy to mulch them, I got too hot and tired.  >_<  So I still have to do that before I can do anything else.

EDIT 4/8/19: Round 2, I went out and mulched around the new privets.

I saw a bluejay in the yard!  :D

EDIT 4/8/19: Round 3, I planted 3 more privets in the same row.  That finishes the current section, although I still have more to plant elsewhere.

I saw a red admiral butterfly and some bees.  Yay!

EDIT 4/8/19: Round 4, I mulched the latest privets.

My mayapples and wild ginger are sprouting in the forest garden.  I think the bluebells are too.

EDIT 4/8/19: Round 5, I mulched the rest of the privets in that section that had survived from last year.  *goflopnow*
