Last week's fishbowl went pretty well, despite losing power in the middle of it. I still have more poems to write and post.

Poetry in Microfunding:

"Marks of Devotion" belongs to Kande's Quest. Kande ventures into the underworld in search of her brother.

"Energy, Made Visible" belongs to Polychrome Heroics: Shiv. Dr. G and Shiv discuss what could be done with different sets of creme pastels.

"Only If It Is Embraced" belongs to Polychrome Heroics: Damask.  Ham grumbles over the arrangements.

The weather has been warmer here, intermittently sunny and gray, but only a little rain once. Seen at the birdfeeders this week: a flock of sparrows, a flock of mourning doves, several cardinals, some brown-headed cowbirds, a pair of goldfinches, a house finch, a brown thrasher.  In bloom: violets, honeysuckles, jack-in-the-pulpit, pink chives, columbine, white alliums, purple alliums, marigolds, gazania, blue lobelia, white alyssum, zinnias, sage, beebalm, raspberries, blackberries, peonies, black iris, and sundry others.  I finished planting previous things, and today both  shipments of saplings arrived, which is several dozen things to plant.  And we're locked into a trip on Wednesday to buy many more plants.  Argh.

Feathering the Nest

[personal profile] dialecticdreamer is hosting the prompt call "Feathering the Nest" today. This one always focuses on positive stories about nonsexual intimacy. Leave prompts, get ficlets! Boosting the signal or attracting new prompters will get more words. Further perks:

"For those who have any extra funds and want to see a story posted, I've got a little enticement: Shiv is asked, in another emergency situation, to babysit Jaxon. However, this time he asks for help, and gets it. The story is five parts long, but I'll post it and create the internal links all in one sitting, as soon as the tips reach $50.

Oh, and if we reach this goal, I'd written earlier in the month about the idea of posting an entire bonus story on the last day of May as well. That story isn't yet selected, but it will run at least six thousand words, which is twenty-five pages long. I'm practically vibrating in place in excitement for this particular goal, and every single signal boost will help."

EDIT 5/21/18 -- [personal profile] technoshaman has offered to match tips up to $25, which should help reach the goal.  :D

Monday Yardening

Today is gray and warm.  We did get a little rain this morning, with a chance of more later.

My first yardening project was putting a few scoops of wood chips into two buckets so I can unpack the seedlings, which need to be kept damp.  From the first batch from Four Seasons, some are properly wrapped in plastic or pots, but the bundles of privets are just bare roots.  I wrapped those in wet paper and put them into a bucket.

EDIT 5-21-18: I have now unwrapped, sorted, and repacked the second batch from Exciting Gardens.

EDIT 5-21-18: I planted 3 ixia, 3 ranunculus, 6 gladioli, and 3 balloon flowers in the septic garden.  These were bonus plants sent with the orders.

EDIT 5-21-18: I planted 4 white-edged hostas in the purple-and-white garden.  I planted 3 strawberries in the wildflower garden.  I planted a Stella d'Oro daylily near the telephone pole by the road.  As it is now dark, I am done for the day.

Poem: "When They're Not Around"

This poem came out of the May 15, 2018 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired by prompts from [personal profile] ng_moonmoth and [personal profile] ari_the_dodecahedron. It also fills the "monster" square in my 5-1-18 Roles card for the Pro Wrestling Bingo Fest. This poem has been sponsored by [personal profile] janetmiles.

"When They're Not Around"

Everything has a home
and a job in this world ...
and sometimes in others.

The gremlins that chew on
clothes in the washing machine
go home to their hollow hill
whenever it's empty.

The fairies that flit among
the houseplants and prisms in
the bay window are the same as
those who chase butterflies outside.

The trolls that chase cars are
always nearby, but sometimes they're
on the road and other times under the bridge.

They have their own friends and families,
just like any other creatures, and they
go about business and pleasure
here and there as they will.

When we think of them as monsters,
we forget to wonder what they're up to
when they're not around, but

life is better with a little wonder in it.

Poem: "That Moment When You Realize"

This poem came out of the May 15, 2018 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired by a prompt from [personal profile] heartsinger. It also fills the "second person narration" square in my 4-7-18 card for the [community profile] origfic_bingo fest and the "WILD CARD: road trip" square in my 5-1-18 General card for the Pro Wrestling Bingo fest.  This poem has been sponsored by [personal profile] janetmiles.
