May 13th, 2018

I just saw a goldfinch in the yard, in full summer plumage of black and yellow.  :D  I think that, like the indigo bunting, he's looking for grass seed.  I really need to get that thistle sock.

EDIT 5/13/18: Doug brought home a thistle sock after erranding.  I have it hung and am waiting to see when the birds discover it.  Yay!

Sunday Yardening

Today is gray and hot.

I planted a yellow raspberry in the patch by the orchard.  I planted a white spruce tree at the edge of the savanna near the old fish pond.

EDIT 5/13/18: I put covers and mulch over the new plants, and watered them.  It's 90 out, so I have to work in small stages. :/

EDIT 5/13/18: I planted wild ginger, yellow violet, Solomon's seal, and celandine poppy in the forest garden outside the kitchen window.

EDIT 5/13/18: I weeded the goddess garden and put the ceramic goddess statue back in the center.  Happily, most of the thyme from last year survived, it's just sprouting slowly.  I planted a Foxley thyme (which is variegated) and a silver thyme there.

EDIT 5/13/18: In the white garden at the end of the driveway, I planted artemesia.  I also potted up a set of three different basil plants in the oval trough.

Participation was enthusiastic, with 19 on LiveJournal and another 97 on Dreamwidth. A total of 27 people sent prompts. Please welcome new prompter [personal profile] torc87, whom you can thank for the second freebie.
