Native Voices

A friend tipped me to this awesome list of native video games and comics.  Look closely at the themes.  They are very different from what appears in most mainstream examples.  So if you're tired of the usual crap, try some of these.  I've added notes about them for those of my characters into such things; feel free to prompt if that appeals to you.

You can watch the first episode of Kagagi online; it's in a mix of Anishinaabemowin and English.  If you know even a few words, it's really fun to pick them out of the flow.  Listen to the music, especially.  It's easy to forget, listening to mostly mainstream stuff, how thrilling it can be to hear ethnic music as the background track of a show.  It puts you in a whole different world.  For me, I relate to it in ways that I just don't feel with most entertainment.

Emotional Intimacy Question: Dinner Guest

Folks have mentioned an interest in questions and conversations that make them think. So I've decided to offer more of those. I'm starting with this list.

Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest?

It's hard for me to narrow it down to one, so I won't insist on that rule.  Leaving out people I might genuinely have a chance at, such as famous writers, brings me to:

Stephen Hawking -- because I love quantum physics and would greatly enjoy listening to someone I feel confident is smarter than me.

The Dalai Lama -- again, his existential intelligence outstrips mine.  I think I would ask him, "What do you do when you know how to adapt to the culture you land in each life ... but you don't like  the one you're in?"

EDIT 5/15/18 -- Today, we're focusing on live people.  Someone else reminded me of a historic version that I've penciled in for next week.

Expect Delays

I got woke up at 9 AM today, which is basically the middle of my sleep shift.  >_<  Recent minor plumbing issues have turned into major ones.   Professionals have been called, and cleanup efforts have been attempted.  I do not know if I will be needed for more cleanup later.  I know better than to try fixing anything -- this writer has been told, in no uncertain terms, NOT to be a plumber.  Positive thoughts, prayers, etc. for quick and reasonable repairs are welcome.

This is likely to cause delays in my posting speed and other poetry activities, as well as undermining other online activities.  Sorry for the hassle.

EDIT 5/15/18 -- The plumber has come and gone.  The urgent stuff is fixed.  There will be more later that requires additional parts, but for now we're ahead of the game.  \o/  Thank you for your help.

Poem: "Before They Are Easy"

This poem came out of the January 2, 2018 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired by prompts from [personal profile] rix_scaedu. It also fills the "xenophobic stupidity" square in my 1-1-18 card for the Apocalypse Bingo fest. This poem has been sponsored by Anthony & Shirley Barrette. It belongs to the Polychrome Heroics series.
