Poem: "Neither Automatic Nor Inevitable"

This poem is spillover from the July 21, 2015 Poetry Fishbowl.  It was inspired by a prompt from DW user Stardreamer.  It also fills the "healthy touch" square in my 5-20-15 card for the Wellness Toolbox Bingo fest, and the  "nervous breakdown" square in my 11-25-14 card for the Hurt/Comfort Bingo fest.  This poem belongs to the Danso and Family thread of the series Polychrome Heroics, this time featuring Cassandra and Groundhog.

WARNING: This poem contains intense content that some readers may find disturbing.  Highlight to read more detailed warnings, some of which are spoilers. It contains auxiliary legal processes for handling severe superpower crime, extreme emotional stress, a really scary superhero, public speaking, descriptions of past abuse, crying in public, minor incidental self-injury, removal of a superpower as punishment for super crimes, consensual undressing by someone else, and other challenges. Current environment is supportive.  If these are sensitive topics for you, please consider your tastes and headspace before deciding whether you want to read this right now.

This microfunded poem is being posted one verse at a time, as donations come in to cover them.  It is on sale, making the rate $.25/line, so $5 will reveal 20 new lines, and so forth. Updating Hugo Rules

Here is a detailed analysis of some proposed changes to the Hugo Award rules as regards nomination and voting.  The intent is to discourage a repetition of slate voting which the sad/rabid puppies used to tamper with this year's voting.  Looks like there's some potential for improvement.

What annoys me is that a small number of people have caused problems for a large number of people, and disrupted an established award, just to promote their own limited agenda.  Seriously, if you want to bark up some group of writers or works, you should really just launch a new award for that.  This is why we have thematic awards like the Tiptree, Lambda, Chesley, Pegasus, etc.  It's why I looked at early crowdfunding and put up the Rose & Bay Awards because at the time most others banned or were hostile to crowdfunded works and I didn't want to wait around for someone else to start one.  Trying to hijack an existing, general award to promote a narrow theme is not just rude, it's lazy.

Last week's half-price sale in Polychrome Heroics had a moderate turnout.  I have a couple things left to post, one whole epic and one for microfunding.  So if you missed the sale but still want to participate, there are actually three  epics to be open in Polychrome Heroics now, all locked at the sale price of $.25/line.  Even $5 will unlock 20 lines.

Poetry in Microfunding:
"These Tiny Little Steps" belongs to Frankenstein's Family.  Victor is a determined father, a good doctor, and a terrible patient.  "With Your Brain and Your Resourcefulness" belongs to Polychrome Heroics: Antimatter and Stalwart Stan.  Captured by the supervillain Velvet, Lawrence and Stan struggle to find some means of escape.  "Neither Automatic Nor Inevitable" belongs to Polychrome Heroics: Danso and Family.  When SPOON captures the clipper who injured Cassandra, she confronts him in hope of obtaining justice.  "Coming Back to Your Breath" belongs to Polychrome Heroics: Aquariana.  (To be posted.)  We're closed for further microfunding until some of these finish.

Torn World writing update:

Approved as canon: "Unicorns on Parade" "Spruce Deer" "Wandering the Heights" (poetry).  Back to me for edits: "Winterheart" (parts 2-3), "Stinging Like Nettles"  "Off the Clock" (poetry).  Currently in front of the canon board: "Ghost Bat" (nonfiction). Weather here is starting to cool a little.  Sweet alyssum, torenia, blue lobelia, portulaca, ice flowers, clover, shasta daisies, echinacea, yellow coneflower, Queen Anne's lace, and compass plants are blooming.

Poem: "Coming Back to Your Breath"

This poem is spillover from the May 5, 2015 Poetry Fishbowl.  It was inspired by prompts from tigerbright, DW users Curiosity, and Librarygeek.  It also fills the "be here now" square in my 5-2-15 card for the Wellness Toolbox Bingo fest.  This poem belongs to the Aquariana thread of the series Polychrome Heroics.

WARNING: This poem contains some melancholy stuff.  Highlight to read more detailed warnings, some of which are spoilers. It involves worrying about friends, debating the ethics and risks of intervening, a mess of depression-anxiety-PTSD, acute stress response, intense discussion of spiritual awareness andradical acceptance, graphic descriptions of traumatized behavior, and other challenges. Current environment is supportive, and it helps.  If these are sensitive topics for you, please consider your tastes and headspace before continuing.
