Genderbending in Art

Here is a marvelously detailed article analyzing aspects of sex and gender in art.  The author pays particular attention to genderbending and how artists portray strong female characters or passive male characters -- the hera and heronet of my foursquare character set, counterbalancing the traditional hero and heroine.  Strong women, for instance, have features usually reserved for heroes, such as visible muscles and an active or tense pose.  Passive men, conversely, have features customarily imposed on heronies, such as flowing hair or a pleading pose.
