Moment of Silence: Anne McCaffrey

Anne McCaffrey has passed away.  She did a lot of groundbreaking for women in science fiction.  She made the world fall in love with dragons.  She will be sorely missed.  I have written an elegy, shared below.

Gone Between
-- an elegy for Anne McCaffrey, 1 April 1926 - 21 November 2011

Gone beyond,
Gone between,
Gold-winged grace
No more seen

Gone to catch
Outward tide
Harper's breath,
Lyon's pride

Gone where stars
And ships sing,
Turned on slim
Dragon wing

Gone from Earth,
Gone aloft,
Soaring toward
Heaven's croft

Leaving tales
Here behind
In every
Heart and mind

Another elegy for Anne has been posted on Feminist SF.

If you know of more, please share.

A nice tribute, I think you hit all of the McCaffrey universes I can think of!
There are more worlds that she created, but I tried to hit the highlights.
That's lovely, thank you. *tears* I just found out. What an amazing woman she was.
I was inspired as much by her poetry as her fiction. It's so catchy, it sticks in memory without even trying. One night at Chambanacon we went through dozens of them in open filk. Everybody knew them.
You *are* a filker! I knew I liked you :)

Well, I'm a fan of filk and I know some of the major filksingers, like filkertom. I write lyrics, a few of which have been set to music. But I have no singing voice in my current body, alas.

You might consider dropping by kajones_writing's call for prompts; song lyrics are among the suggested categories. I put in "The Phoenix" and then picked from different genres. More filk would be fun.
I had the same thought about 'gone between'. I'm glad you made it into a poem.
I'm happy to be of service.

Also, Anne herself wrote about between as a realm that touched all realities and none -- there's a scene from Moreta's perspective, caught there.
Huh. I had forgotten about that, though it makes sense. If there is a realm that touches all realities making it intangible makes a lot of sense.

I'm glad you appreciate it.
That is just beautiful.

Thank you.

*weeps*
I'm glad that you found it so touching.
Beautifully written, very evocative of many of the stories that touched my heart. Thank you.
She gave us stories, but more, she sowed the seeds of stories in others.
