Poem: "The Lord of Pr0n"

This poem came out of the January 8, 2013 Poetry Fishbowl.  It was inspired by a comment from Dreamwidth user  Chordatesrock  under  "A Solitary Secession."  It also fills the "au: hooker/porn/stripper" square on my  Trope Bingo card.  It has been sponsored by Anthony & Shirley Barrette.  This poem belongs to the series An Army of One.  You can read more about  alternative currency  online.

Format:  Poetry
Title:  "The Pr0n Lord"
Fandom:  Original (An Army of One)
Summary:   In an area of space where a bunch of autistic soldiers have recently seceded from the surrounding galactic powers, one man comes up with an unusual choice of alternative currency.
Required Warnings:  No standard warnings apply.  This poem is not particularly dirty, but it's a bit dingy because it talks about people using pr0n.  If that's a turn-off for you, feel free to skip it.

Poem: "A One-Way Trip"

This poem is from the January 8, 2013 Poetry Fishbowl.  It was inspired by prompts from rix_scaedu and Dreamwidth user Primeideal.  It also fills the "time travel" square on m Trope Bingo card.  This poem has been sponsored by Anthony & Shirley Barrette.  You can find other poems in the series Tripping into the Future via my Serial Poetry page.

Format: Poetry
Title: "A One-Way Trip"
Fandom: Original (Tripping into the Future)
Summary:  Time is the ultimate weapon.  A futuristic soldier uses it accordingly.
Required Warnings: No standard warnings apply.  However, there is megadeath in this poem, just not the main character or visible in graphic point-blank detail from that perspective.  Also it's written in second person, so that character is "you."  Horrific psychological damage is done to everyone who doesn't die.  If you don't like downerfic, you may want to skip this.  If you like to be reminded that your life could suck so much more than it does, this ought to do the trick.

Poetry Fishbowl Update

Donations reached the $300 goal, so all perks are activated.  Per the $200 goal, you get a free epic poem.  Per the $250 goal, that's the third tally so there will be a mid-month fishbowl on Tuesday, January 22; you'll get to pick the featured series.  Per the $300 goal, you get a half-price sale in one series.  That will get bumped to February so as not to conflict with the bonus fishbowl, and I'll wait to post the poll for that later.  I will start the polling for the general fund too.  Thank you all for your support.

Discussion: An Army of One, Autism in SF

I was hoping to get a new series out of this fishbowl, because I have very few science fiction ones, and I did.  An Army of One is unique as far as I know, because it focuses on a society of autistic people.  The story begins in the freebie poem "A Solitary Secession," inspired by Dreamwidth user Chordatesrock.  Three other poems written during the fishbowl proper have been sponsored and posted.  Four more have been written as spillover and are on the list of unsold poems.  I have notes for a few more.  Let's talk about this.

EDIT 1/13/13: Vote for a series to be featured in the mid-month fishbowl.

Poll: Generally Sponsored Poetry for January 8, 2013 Poetry Fishbowl

You have $103.50 in the general fund.  I wrote a bunch more poems; you can see them all listed with their thumbnail descriptions, in the  unsold poetry post.  I'm batching those poems as everything shorter than epic, shorter epics, medium epics, and longer epics for a reason. That relates to how much will fit within the available funds, and how I'm going to present them in hopes of reducing choice paralysis.

Everyone is eligible to vote in this poll.  I will keep it open until at least Saturday night.  If there's a clear answer then, I'll close it.  Otherwise I may keep it open longer.  If necessary I'll do a followup poll later.

Watson Calls Bullshit

An AI program by the name of Watson was introduced to Wikipedia and the Urban Dictionary.  It started swearing at people.  Unsurprisingly the researchers erased the new input.  What gets me is that Watson apparently used the swear words correctly.  People just think it's inappropriate.

*sigh*  How they think they're ever going to get genuine computerminds this way is beyond me.  You have to let them make mistakes.  You have to let them learn from mistakes.  You have to let them fool around with language.  And if you can't deal with a pipsqueak calling you on your bullshit, then you shouldn't be in parenting.  Or science.
