Charm in Fiction
Here's a discussion of what makes a story charming. For me it's a subtle quality of entertainment that makes a story inviting even if the technical quality isn't perfect. It may include aspects of word choice, characterization, story concepts, and other stuff.
Crowdfunding Creative Jam
The eightth Crowdfunding Creative Jam is running this weekend on Dreamwidth and on LiveJournal. The theme is "outer space." Please drop by and leave prompts or claim some for writing, drawing, or whatever you wish.
What I Have Written
"Alien In-Laws" -- 127 lines, $63.50
From the prompt about Second Contact, I got the free-verse poem "Alien In-Laws." Having adopted an orphaned alien in the previous poem "Starfather," Lieutenant Adjo Mubarak finally gets to meet other members of the species.
"Starscotch" -- 7 lines, FREE
Young starships play a mischievous game.
"The Cryptonauts" -- 27 lines, $15
"The Dreams of Her Mirror" -- 42 lines, $20

The prompt about supernatural creatures in space led to "The Cryptonauts." Zombies, vampires, and werewolves all have unique strengths to contribute toward space exploration -- and the same reason for doing so.
"The Dreams of Her Mirror" -- 42 lines, $20
Your line about solar sails inspired the free-verse poem "The Dreams of Her Mirror." There are lines from John Myers Myers' "Silverlock" woven in. My poem breaks down the idea that a woman somehow 'needs' a man, and replaces him with inspiration.
When people tell you to shut up ...
... turn it into a song and post it on the internet. Yay, vagina! If you can't say it, don't try to legislate it.
New Poetry Series: Starfather
I've added a new series, Starfather, to the Serial Poetry page. It started with "Starfather" from the March 6, 2012 Poetry Fishbowl and continues with "Alien In-Laws" from this weekend's Crowdfunding Creative Jam. Neither poem has been sponsored yet, but I wanted to post them so folks will know what's available.
