Age Discrimination and Employment

Here's an article about being too old to hire but too young to retire. I think it's a huge problem in America today, where unemployment is already a long-term problem for many people. Lose your job and you may never get another one -- and simply be discarded by society as being of no use to it. So then there's this large and growing number of people with no means of support, who become a drain on resources instead of producing resources. That's a waste of human capital on practical terms, as well as being inhumane on moral terms. And then of course society wants to blame the victims. That's just evil.

The next Poetry Fishbowl will be on Tuesday, April 3 with a theme of "Steampunk and Other Eras."  Yes, I'm willing to do a Steamsmith poem or two, but don't overdo it so we won't short out half the house again.  Think about what other iconic historic eras you like and the subgenres connected with them.

Poetry in Microfunding:
"Tunnel Vision" (The Steamsmith) features an argument about civil engineering with Isambard Kingdom Brunel, Arthur Wellesley, a couple of pesky young noblemen, and of course Maryam.  "Follow Your Heart" (Path of the Paladins) was opened and completed, in which Shahana and Ari deal with smugglers and followers of Gorrein. Closely related to this poem is a set of lyrics, "A Matter of the Heart," by catsittingstill, for which people have crowdfunded a tune to be composed. Yay!  "Storm Wrack" (Path of the Paladins) is a direct sequel to "Follow Your Heart" and brings Johan back into contact with Shahana and Ari.

It's a beautiful day today here.  Apple and cherry trees are blooming along with tulips, hyacinths, gold currant, and wild violets.  I'm hoping to get outside and do more yardwork.
