Free Serial Poetry Poll for February 7, 2012 Fishbowl

The February 7, 2012 Poetry Fishbowl has met all its donation goals.  You get two free series poems.  They can be in the same series, or in two different series.  First decide whether you want poetry from one series or two.  Then decide which series you want; you may vote for one or two.  Hopefully the poll will put two in the lead.  I will leave this poll open until at least Saturday night.  If the results are clear, I'll close it then; otherwise I may leave it open a bit longer.  (There are also some other polls currently open, so if you haven't voted in those, please do so.)

Sketch Fest Art

See the cute mushroom based on my prompt.  Here's another rendition of the same prompt, with a fairy added.  "Grumpy Mushroom" has a crankier look but is still appealing.  This is a delightful full-color rendering of an amanita mushroom spirit.  This B/W ink drawing includes a frowning mushroom surrounded by fluffy sprites and butterflies.

Here is a male dancer.

This is a cameleopard.  In this version, there is a leopard stalking giraffes.  And here is the classic heraldic cameleopard.

The steampunk cheetah is so very cool.

This picture has helpful shadows.  Here is another, more romantic version.

Some of you may relate to the pregnant void.

"Thunder and Song" features a startled bard.

Mother griffin is fierce.  Nesting grifflets are cute.

Tom Smith Subscriptions

filkertom is now selling music subscriptions.  That gets you access to a subscriber file where you can download new songs before anyone else gets them, and other goodies.

Also, he's thinking about doing a prompted filk day.  We want to encourage this.  He is the only person I know who can compose rhymes faster than I do -- and his are even set to music.  So if you like my poetry fishbowls, you'll probably like his filk fishbowls too.  The one I caught at a house concert was phenomenal.

He's also nominated in the Other Project category of the Rose & Bay Awards.

A Blues Harmonica Concert

Today my_partner_doug and I went to a blues harmonica concert at the Douglas-Hart Nature Center in Mattoon.  Deak Harp performed on harmonica, electric guitar and electric banjo, and drum.  It was pretty cool.  The guy plays like a cricket on caffeine, very energetic stuff.  He also told stories about learning to play the harmonica, and the instrument's history.  I had not known that the harmonica was invented in China.

Deak is a traveling musician who performs around Illinois and other states as well, mainly Chicago-style blues. Watch for him to appear at other events; his website lists a schedule.

Poll: Pick Your Free Serial Poems

This is the followup poll for the free serial poetry.  Based on the results of the previous poll, you get to pick one in Monster House and one in Fiorenza the Wisewoman. I will keep this poll open at least until Sunday evening. If there are clear winners then, I'll close it; otherwise I may leave it open a bit longer.
