Poem: "Storm Season"

This poem is the freebie for the August Muse Fusion over on torn_world.  You can read more about the Duurludirj and their floating villages on the Torn World site.

Storm Season

The storm flag snaps in the rising wind,
cable clattering against flagpole.
Every village has one, and everyone
knows to keep watch for it in autumn.

Busy hands work on the houses,
tearing down the walls and roofs.
Everything inside has already been packed,
ready to stow away before the launch.

Busy hands work on the hulls,
locking walls and roofs into their new sockets,
building the flotilla as they do each year,
getting ready to ride the tide.

By the time the storms come,
the whole village will be safely asea,
the great ramships guarding the flotilla
against the monsters that lurk below.

Prompt Call from Kajones Writing

kajones_writing has posted a prompt call.  There are multiple series and you can ask for a new story or a continuation of a previous one.  Several different perks are based on different types of participation, and it's also possible to buy extension of a favorite story.  So far my favorite is Donor House, about vampires, although I really like Afterlife too.

The next Poetry Fishbowl will be on Tuesday, September 6 with a theme of "pets and livestock."

There are four epic poems in microfunding: "Restoration" tells how the radiator dragon came to live in Monster House.  "The Accidental Hero" follows Aldornia and Zenobia when one of Aldornia's relatives unexpectedly appears in the Temple of Golden Light.  "Igor's Creature" is a mix of horror and science fiction with a large helping of sociology and a wry twist of humor.  The epic poem "A Periodic Table of Elementals" is ahead of production.

Poetry has been lively of late.  Two epics have been completed and there are several new poems posted in this journal or linked from elsewhere.  Thank you all for your continued support.

It's been a fairly quiet week here.  We did the third knot magic class, and I baked a ginger gold apple pie.  The weather has been very dry, so not much is growing.
