Monday Update: 3-14-11

These are some posts from the later part of last week, in case you missed them:

Crowdfunding Trial Run: Editorial Cartoons
Poetry Submissions
Torn Tongue: Nouns Beginning with "G"
Gender in Torn World
Fatal Chemicals in the Gulf of Mexico

I also had a cluster of posts about a set of poems that I wrote back in 1995-6. One of them just got published, and I reprinted another, so this set has been added to the "Serial Poetry" page on my website.
Read "The Leader of the Rebel Drones..."
Serial Poetry Page Update: "Queen Choufa and the Rebel Drones"
Poem: "Queen Choufa Beseeches Her Sister"

The epic poems "The Truth in the Tower" (a Fiorenza poem) and " Paper, Scissors, Stone" (a Monster House poem) are currently in microfunding.  "The Truth in the Tower" has 13 of 23 verses posted, and the next can be revealed for $1.  "Paper, Scissors, Stone" has 9 of 17 verses funded, and you can have the next one for $2.  One other epic is currently open for sponsorship. "A Periodic Table of Elementals" is ahead of production.  This is science fantasy.

Voting is still open for the Fiction runoff poll in the 2011 Rose & Bay Awards. That closes on March 15, votes to be tallied on the 16th and announced shortly.

Currently in front of the canon board at Torn World: "Clouds in the Morning," "The Sky Rangers," "Cutting Time," "Squiggles: Excerpts from Nleimen's Journal," "One-Tick Literature," "Words Between Brothers," "One Toy for Three," "On the Rocks," "Lookbacks," "The Ties We Twine," (fiction) and "The Sugar Mouse" (poetry). In revision at home: "Water Dance." I have some more drafts waiting to be moved into the revision phase, and a story in progress.

Help Hunt Press Buy a New Computer

My friend angela_n_hunt is doing a crowdfunding drive to buy a new computer for Hunt Press, which is growing from a micropress to a small press.  You may recall that this is the publisher who wants to publish a hardcopy of the "Origami Mage" poetry series when that story arc is complete.  Please support small press by donating or boosting the signal.  This is your alternative to mainstream publishing's endless shelves of McFantasy.

I sympathize with the tale of the beaten-to-death computers, by the way.  With me it's printers.  I killed a number of desktop printers before I started buying ones made for small office use.  My current one is a Brother which is about one cubic foot in size, holds most of a package of paper in its drawer, and does duplex printing.  <3  I never want to do without duplex again.

Real Ethnic Food

Yep.  This the true story of what happens when a fair-skinned person walks into an ethnic restaurant and orders HOT food (3 pages).  I have seen versions of this with multiple friends.  Me, the closest I get is having people stare at me when I eat crystalized ginger root as candy.  Link courtesy of my_partner_doug (who likes not just Food That Commands Respect, but food that coshes your respect over the head and drags it into a dark alley to rifle its pockets for loose taste buds).
