Poem: "The Other Truck"

This poem was inspired by a prompt from janetmiles.  It was sponsored by rix_scaedu.  In case you're not familiar with it, you can read more about haggis online.

The Other Truck

A squall of accordion music blares from the speakers
as the Bad Humor truck turns the corner.

The bogeyman and the lurking shadow
scramble to grab wooden nickels
out of the jar on the coffee table.

Soon they are arguing cheerfully
over whether to split a bowl of haggis
or each get their own skewer of garlicy brussels sprouts
while the air fills with the scent of liver and onions.

The golem in front of Naomi's house bounces impatiently on his toes.

Golems are typically quite calm. He is very excited about the treat truck coming. I have noticed this effect with snowcone trucks -- ordinarily quiet people will scramble through the house and then jig impatiently from one foot to the other while waiting for the truck to pull up.
They're also quite heavy, being made of clay or earth and generally built quite solidly. One bouncing could probably do a good bit of earth-shaking.
That's what makes it funny, to me, this rather ponderous creature excited enough to bounce. It's kind of like Frankenstein's monster, that slow thud-thud when he walks.

Several buckets of clay, shaped into a largish humanoid form ... yeah, that golem probably weighs between two and three hundred pounds.
