Stimulate the ACLU

God bless this American, who made a gripping video about what he did with his "stimulus check." He donated it to the ACLU.

What will happen with my stimulus check? I'll probably never see any of it. It will get applied to the taxes owed from previous years. Self-employed people get taxed double, paying both the employer's and the employee's share of social security.

I didn't know that - that's ridiculous!
There are many other factors which seriously penalize self-employed people. Frex, health insurance is almost exclusively provided by employers; that's pretty much the only way to get into a pool large enough to have affordable rates. Unless you've got $12,000 or so to drop on private insurance, you don't get any. You also don't get a pension except for social security and whatever you can scrape into a private retirement fund; you aren't eligible for many programs that cover disability, worker's compensation for on-the-job injuries, or unemployment. That's because the government tends to equate self-employment with NOT WORKING.

I typically spend 10-12 hours a day wordsmithing.

Yeah. Right.
