Sen. Barack Obama became the first American presidential candidate to visit the reservation of the Crow Nation, and in doing so was adopted into the nation under the Crow name "One Who Helps People Throughout the Land."
In addition to the obvious politicking, Obama also pledged to redress endemic reservation problems by improving access to quality health care and education. Even if his efforts are ultimately blocked, at least he cared enough to bother to go there and inclue one of the First Nations in his campaign tour.
*ponder* I don't think anyone has paid much attention to the native vote, but in a close campaign they could be a potent bloc. And as the article points out, they do tend to vote congruently. Maybe he'll visit some other interior nations too.
