Orca Tote Bags

Today at the grocery store, I saw a gorgeous reusable bag: red with a black orca in Pacific coastal art.  The lady had received it as a gift from a relative living out west.  Has anyone else seen something like that?  I'd love to have one.  I collect the basic reusable grocery bags in canvas or in recycled plastic fabric.  I am particularly partial to the ones with interesting images or messages on them.

I found a small keepsake box with a ceramic lid that featured a Haida-style orca... in a British second hand furniture store, of all places. Needless to say, my homesickness for the West coast had me purchase it on the spot.
That was a lucky find.

I have a few pieces of coastal art from trips out there, but not much. I love the bold crisp designs and the black-white-red colors. One of my favorites is Tsagaglalal, "She Who Watches."
Hmmm... The artwork looks similar to that of the Haida and other coastal groups, and the name certainly sounds linguistically related, but the folktale has a striking difference from the coastal groups; Coyote is the trickster, not Raven.
I noticed that. There are variations on the legend and the characters, and some in the name. I grabbed a site that sounded decent and had a picture of the "eyes" glyph.

One of my better college classes was Native American Literature. We did Trickster for a while. That included comparing the common trickster figures such as Coyote, Raven, Rabbit, and Fox.
Trickster figures are fun. :)

No, sorry, but I crochet string bags (sport or worsted cotton). Remind me as it gets closer to pantheacon, if you're going, and I can make sure to have one for you. They are great for laundry, produce, or books.
That's not an event we attend, but thanks for thinking of me.
What a nifty visual. I'm a bit bogged down at the moment trying to get Halloween stuff done, but I'd love to try to create an Orca and have it on canvas bags at Zazzle.
That's it! *happydance* At $4.95 I may even be able to afford one at some point. Thank you so much.
And the orca has arrived! Thank you.
LOL, when I first read this I thought "I don't remember sending her an orca post card" and it took me a second to remember what orca it might be. Glad to hear it got there & I hope you enjoy it!
Always glad to be of help.
:)
