California Upholds Right to Same-Sex Marriage

According to this article, California overturned two state laws denying marriages to same-sex couples, on the grounds that it constitutes sexual discrimination. Kudos to California for calling a spade a spade. The next hurdle will be to prevent people from changing the state's constitution to allow that kind of sexual discrimination.

Yeah, that's pretty promising. If it holds in California, the rest of the nation will probably follow. It may take a while, but we'll get there. ;-)
It's pretty clear that the anti-gay laws will fall, because the younger generations -- who will eventually assume power -- simply don't care if people are homosexual. Meanwhile, the discrimination angle is very savvy and likely to create some progress.
I've met quite a few younger homophobes. But, yeah, it does definitely seem to be less common in the younger generation than in the older.
It's the percentages that are shifting. There are older people who are perfectly tolerant, and younger people who are sexual bigots. But the overall trend is towards acceptance, which is delightful.

*snicker* Not to mention that one side effect of all that "abstinence" teaching is a couple generations who are going hog-wild with oral and anal sex because it "doesn't count." I've seen that in several articles now, and I bust out laughing every time. Talk about conservatives shooting themselves in the foot...!
Heh, yeah that is pretty rich. :-)
