Poem: "Trashcat"

This poem came from the September 6, 2011 Poetry Fishbowl.  It was inspired by prompts from natasiakith and kelkyag.  It was sponsored by laffingkat.

Trashcat

The little black kitten
that someone abandoned
grew into a sleek black cat

that was always bringing home
unexpected things --
bottle caps and racquet ball rinds
and once a baby squirrel, its eyes still closed

remembering, perhaps,
the importance of being picked up
and taken home.

*shrug* You have introvert and extrovert cats same as you do humans... there's an evolutionary advantage to having a mix like that in many social species. [less so in canines due to the additional 'pack' structure hierarchy rather than 'loose knit network of shifting alliances' that humans and cats share.]

More importantly though, is how it demonstrates that empathy is not limited to higher cognition or within species boundaries.
That's a good point.

I think social animals can be introverts too, though. There are lone wolves and lions, for instance.
