Carbon Threshold

According to this article, the target threshold for carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is 350 parts per million -- if, the scientists explain, "humanity wishes to preserve a planet similar to that on which civilization developed and to which life on earth is adapted."

Guess what the current amount is.

385 ppm and rising fast.

Not only is the frog not jumping out of the boiling water, he's actually turning up the dial on the stove. Yee.

More information on lowering the carbon threshold is here.

This is one theory as to why all the 'oxygen therapies' are taking off in a big way by the natural health industry. There is not enough oxygen in the air we breathe and the water we drink to keep us healthy any more (look at the rise in 'new' pharmaceuticals -- just don't push that 'rainbow rant' button tonight). We're rapidly turning into -- or maybe even have turned into -- an anaerobic society. Even if we 'did' want to get off the couch and exercise, there is not the oxygen in the air to sustain prolonged workouts. So guess what? New gimmicks from the 'air purifier' and the 'fitness water' brigades to get us to part with our hard earned money to buy what the world once gave to us freely.

The mind boggles.
That's why there are more people with asthma today than 50 years ago.
I recently saw a very disturbing show about the Great Dying -- the mass extinction that wiped out most of the life on Pangaea and in the oceans, opening the way for the dinosaurs to evolve. It was probably triggered by an asteroid strike, but the alarming part was the release of hydrogen sulfide that had been produced by anaerobic bacteria, creating dead zones in the ocean. Today's Dead Sea has the same bacteria producing the same poison. And the oceans have huge spreading dead zones, spawned by bloom-and-bust cycles of algae and other microbes. So. Anoxic environments available, poison-producing bacteria available, evidence of past cataclysm caused partly by poisonous gas. *shiver*
I've read about this some time ago, and it scared me.
Time to start sucking the carbon out of the air, removing the oxygen, and using the carbon from that process in steel.
