Meme: If I wrote Cinderella...

Gakked from Dreamwidth:

If I made Cinderella, the audience would immediately be looking for a body in the coach.-- Alfred Hitchcock, 1899 - 1980

If I wrote Cinderella, what would you immediately be looking for?

Well, I'd be looking very hard at the Fairy godmother...
That makes sense.
A livejournal post! XD
Good one.
malicious beasties with good intentions
I do that a fair bit, don't I? Hee!
A twist on a trope (trope on a rope?)
Trope on a rope, love it. Must remember that one.

At some point, I'd expect her to clear up the mistaken translation,
and insist that the idiot prince bring a fur slipper...
and she'd probably give him a piece of her mind
regarding taxation and health care...
I actually did write a scene, once, in which a character was given a pair of ermine slippers and remarked "not vair, but ver."

You'd write it from the perspective of one of the stepsisters, and talk about 1) how they, too, had lost a parent; 2) how being the persecuted nerd girl is sympathetic, but so too are the beautiful people, pushed to be nothing but appearances by people like the stepmother and; 3) the foot thing especially as a beauty deal.
That's a good one.
I would know better than to look for anything, because whatever I thought I was expecting, you'd turn it on it's ear.

Put another way, I'd be looking for you to do something completely unexpected with the story.
Expect the unexpected! :-D

I dunno. But I rewrote Cinderella once. No prince, no ball. The "fairy godmother" teaches her how to pick locks and encourages her to run away. She does, and has a successful life joining the gypsies. (or something like that, I haven't read it for a while) Self-rescuing maiden, just needed some encouragement.
Hmmmm...

I think you'd probably write a quirky, lyrical poem from the perspective of the glass slipper. :D
