Yes indeed

It's the same for me.

Honestly I'm less attracted by the 'shades of gray' trend I see around, unless that means 'no one is perfect' (as in real life) and 'making the right choice is difficult and sometimes there's just the lesser evil' (as in real life).

...Don't get me started on the anti-hero and the 'there's no real good or evil' though.

In my experience, the effectiveness of "shades of gray" in storytelling depends a lot on the writer's skill, and somewhat on the character(s) and plot at hand. I like situations that turn out to be more complicated than people thought. I do not like situations where there's no good or even tolerable solution and/or where there's nobody halfway decent to root for. If I wanted that sort of thing, I'd watch the news.

I can get behind an anti-hero who is a rascal, like Han Solo. He's sneaky and greedy and raunchy, yes, but he's kind of cute and doesn't take it so far you want to cut of body parts to teach him manners. I dislike the kind of anti-hero who just acts like a complete bastard, regardless of what other 'good' he is allegedly doing. I don't want to spend time with that kind of character, unless it involves watching the opposition kill him, and sometimes not even then.
