Re: Well...

>>I mostly hang out with people who live in the weirder planes of reality.<<

Same here. Because ...

>> To the point where I often lose track of what is and is not "normal", and occasionally end up really disturbing someone because of the huge gap between what I accept without blinking an eye and what they do. <<

... normal people tend to bore me, and I tend to scare them. I can pass as normal, if I concentrate, but it's like trying to hold my breath. I can only do it for a few hours at a time, when I'm really pushing, or a few days at a more moderate level.

>>A lot of that has to do with being relatively poor in a very rich town, though. People who just can't even conceive of having to live on Ramen for a couple of weeks, or the fact that my Health Care plan for the last seven years has been "Hope it gets better". Let alone the fact that I never got a driver's license and don't own a TV.<<

Just the lack of TV puts anyone outside of most American culture. We have a TV set, but no reception. It changes a lot.

Re: Well...

>> Passing as normal was just too much work. <<

Too true.

>> Also one of the reasons I've spent a lot of time in food service. Kitchens tend to draw a lot of people who don't quite fit elsewhere, and so we can all fit in pretty well there. <<

That's interesting. Good plan. I find wordsmithing to be a similar experience. When everyone is different, everyone belongs.
