Read "Seasons of Power" in The Lorelei Signal

You can now read my poem "Seasons of Power" in The Lorelei Signal  April-June 2011.  It has a lovely illustration too.  This poem is fantasy about a young woman coming into her magic.  The webzine is crowdfunded and allows you to route money to writers and artists.

Ooo... these personifications are so evocative! :)

'Course, it's an interesting poem to put out there just as everyone's coming down from Ostara and thinking ahead to Beltane. Even as an ace, I feel sorry for the poor priest of the Spring... XD

Do you mind if if I crosslink this entry?

Yay!

>> 'Course, it's an interesting poem to put out there just as everyone's coming down from Ostara and thinking ahead to Beltane.<<

One thing I like about it is that the imagery runs counter to mainstream symbolism, which tends to favor spring as a time of expansion, excitement, and freedom. But here we have autumn symbolized in grey and yellow and gold, associated with travel and personal growth. Spring is the black of earth waiting to sprout, and the tending of things at home. Two life paths, equally valid, equally powerful -- but difficult or impossible to mesh with each other.

Yeah, that guy's luck just blows.

By the way, I'm supportive of ace sexuality along with all the others, if that's something you'd ever like to see featured. From my poetry, Hope (the human member of the odd trio) is canonically ace. I strongly suspect that Lian is, although the FTM aspect is more prominent in "A Doe in Velvet." Some Torn World characters are too, such as Omorth:

Please do! I appreciate the signal boost, and I'm sure the folks at The Lorelei Signal will too. That webzine specializes in strong female characters, so I support them as best I can.

Ya know, one of these days I'll actually get around to checking out Torn World, one of these days... :)

I'm always pleased to meet someone who knows about asexuality as a sexual orientation. It's good to know that awareness is growing.

I posted a link to the poem in asexuality. I'm certain there are some there who will appreciate it (especially the pagan-y ones, like me).

I'm pleased to have an ace in my audience, that I know of. Diversity makes me happy. I've always been interested in sexuality and gender, and always been aware of quite a few variations including asexuality. The question is whether or not a particular one is actively practiced in this species on this planet. Then too, raising awareness of sex and gender issues is part of my job; I've picked up asexuality more in recent years because it needs the boost more, now that homosexuality and transgender issues are gaining ground on their own.

It's interesting to note that asexuality, like homosexuality, is viewed very differently in different cultures or contexts. Drop an ace into many religions and what could be a liability in the mainstream is suddenly an asset, because some religions prefer celibate clergy (and will generally not notice the difference between a celibate sexual and someone who isn't sexual at all). Eunuchs and castrati are a couple of other historic examples -- manufactured neuters. For some people, that was an opportunity to make their body reflect their identity.

Thank you! I appreciate the signal boost. I figure that one of the best ways to raise awareness is to connect creative people and interested audiences, for the expansion of writing/art with positive portrayals of a given issue.
I'm two open stories in from the start of the timeline. :)
Yay! I hope you enjoy the reading. The Muse Fusion is this weekend too. So far I've written one story.
