Read "Othertongues" in Linger Fiction

My poem "Othertongues" appears in the April issue of Linger Fiction.  This is science fiction about nonverbal languages.  This poem came out of the November 3, 2009 Poetry Fishbowl.  It was inspired by prompts from wyld_dandelyon and zyngasvryka.

In my Traipah novels, the Xazians were relatively new to auditory language. Being giant motile molecules, their main language has always been "chemsigging," short for "chemical signaling." Their original language, which they still speak, is entirely chemical in origin, but every bit as complex as auditory languages.

Another species I have planned for the same storyverse, the Chiato, are basically deaf. They're like snakes with arms - 6 arms. They can feel sounds where their bodies connect to the ground, but their primary language is a sign language. Rather complex sign language, at that, given they have 6 arms as well as a long tail.

And the machine races of my Carbon and Silicon storyverse can communicate with radio waves and other such signals.
