What We Want

I found this pair of nifty lists on "How to Save the World."

WHAT THE BLOGOSPHERE WANTS MORE OF

Blog readers want to see more:
- original research,surveys etc.
- original,well-crafted fiction
- great finds: resources, blogs, essays, artistic works
- news not found anywhere else
- category killers: aggregators that capture the best of many blogs/feeds, so they need not be read individually
- clever, concise political opinion consistent with their own views
- benchmarks,quantitative analysis
- personal stories,experiences,lessons learned
- first-hand accounts
- live reports from events
- insight:leading-edge thinking & novel perspectives
- short educational pieces
- relevant "aha" graphics
- great photos
- useful tools and checklists
- précis, summaries, reviews and other time-savers
- fun stuff: quizzes, self-evaluations, other interactive content

Blog writers want to see more:
- constructive criticism, reaction, feedback
- 'thank you' comments, and why readers liked their post
- requests for future posts on specific subjects
- foundation articles: posts that writers can build on, on their own blogs
- reading lists/aggregations of material on specific, leading-edge subjects that writers can use as resource material
- wonderful examples of writing of a particular genre, that they can learn from
- comments that engender lively discussion
- guidance on how to write in the strange world of weblogs

Both of those seem pretty accurate to me, from my dual perspective as a reader and writer. What about you?

This video is spectacular. I am most impressed by the out-of-phase actions.

Looks like a good pair of lists to me.
Looks like a pretty good list to me, too. And I'm glad you posted this. It'll give me a nice thing to refer back to when I want to update the LJ, but can't think of anything to write about.
I also keep a list of things that people have requested from me -- I know, for example, that folks here are interested in my personal life even though it wasn't one of my primary reasons for starting the blog; and that they are keenly interested in writing and Paganism, which were. My conlang posts about my desert language Seshaa were a whim, but have proved very popular both here and on conlangs.
Those lists seem to describe the majority of readers and writers pretty well. I would have to agree that I do like getting advice and feedback on my writing in blogs. I like people reading my entries and giving me reassurance and advice and so forth. I see my blog as being more of a place to let out my frustrations and other emotions and sometimes to post my own work. I also see it as a place for inspiration. Whenever something moves me, I post lyrics or videos or songs and such. I just post whatever I feel like! ^_^ It's a place where I can be the real me, so why not?
I like that blogs can have so many different purposes. For some people they are like a diary or a practice notebook. For others they are like a newspaper or bulletin board. Blogs are coffeehouses and front porches and offices and so many other things. You can make one into almost anything you need.
Beautifully said and very true! ^_^ I see it as a place to be me and show the world my deeper thoughts on things. It's my diary and my inspiration. I have met so many wonderful people on here, including you. *smiles*
