The history lesson Continues...

1) Before WW2, Hitler and the Nazi's were actually considered a force for good in Europe since they weren't Fascists nor were they Communists.
They actually had a lot of sympathizers throughout both the US and Great Britain before Hitler declared war (apparently nobody liked the Jews back then). It wasn't until word started trickling out of Germany about the concentration camps that people stopped publicly liking the Nazi's.
There's a book called La Popessa which is the memoirs of the nun who was the housekeeper for the pope during WW2--she had some very interesting things to say about WW2 and what life was like back then in general. It was a real eye opener for me back when I read it, perhaps it would be for you too. (Perhaps your local library has a copy you can read?)
2) Another tidbit for you to think about:
America has strict laws that prohibit convicted criminals from owning guns.
The problem is that criminals don't obey the law. They buy their guns illegally and probably from the same people that drug addicts buy their drugs from.
I imagine the same thing occurs in Great Britain too except for one thing: Honest law-abiding people don't have guns but the criminals do.

I would prefer a world with minimal violence. In a world with lots of violence, however, I prefer that people have generous options for self-defense. If someone were trying to harm me, I wouldn't hesitate to do them serious or fatal harm in self-defense; and I would consider that self-defense to be morally laudable.
There are many sets of moral guidelines in the world. Most of them disagree.
