By the way, if you are interested in Chinese food, I'd recomment reading "The Last Chinese Chef" by Nicole Mones.
It is a novel and has a bit of romance, but, given that one of the main characters is a chef, and the grand-child of one of the last imperial cooks there is a whole lot of well researched history and philosophy of Chinese food in it.
I've used excerpt from the book (together with other materials, of course) holding lectures on the topic in a professional school for cooks over here.
I love language-series posts. I catch these whenever I can. There's this one on Chinese food, and another one on Yoruban language in general.
