The Ideas and Me

I read this quote today:

‎"I don't know where my ideas come from, but I know where they come to. They come to my desk, and if I'm not there, they go away again." - Philip Pullman

*LAAAAAUUUUUGH*  I am laughing.  All my characters are laughing.  All the other ideas that follow me around like a gaggle of goslings are laughing too.

Ideas do not go away if I am not at my desk.  They follow me wherever I go.  They have dragged me out of the shower.  They have woken me up in the middle of the night.  They will make me write them down on napkins if I must.  This is why I carry paper slips in my purse all the time, and a spiralbound notebook on long car trips.  I have learned.  There is no getting away from the ideas.

I am curious: Are your ideas like goslings that will follow you and peck you until you pay attention to them?  Or are they like stray cats that will run off if there isn't food in the dish when they come to it?
