Resources for Editing Poetry
Today's web crawling included the discovery of some resources for editing poetry. These will be useful both to poets in the writing and revision phases, and to poetry editors in selecting and editing poems for publication.

"Editing Poetry" lists 14 tips for writing and editing poetry.

"How to Edit Poetry" lists 5 tips for improving a poem, with before-and-after examples. It's from a writing class.

"White Out and Editing Poetry" is the first of a series on editing poetry.

"Drafting and Editing Poetry" is a lesson for teachers to use in class, including a Longfellow poem before and after the author's revisions.

"The Science of Poetry: Editing and Revising" is a narrative about how one poet goes through the revision process, including examples of a poem in progress.

"The Continuing Evolution of Poem #585" is a fascinating study of how Emily Dickinson's poetry has been edited, including examples of her original draft and subsequent edits by various other people. Especially check out the page that lets you toggle back and forth between several different word choices.

"How to Write a Poem" is a set of steps for both writing and editing. It includes another Longfellow draft.

"Setting Poem Scoresheet" is a pretty good rubric for class, indicating the strong and weak parts of a poem. Learn how to distinguish these and other points.
