I figure photographers with that much grit deserve extra attention.

I'm always reminded of the one who, when Mount St. Helens blew, shot pictures instead of instantly fleeing. (Not that it would've made any difference that far into the zone of doom, but still, it showed an atypical priority setting under extreme pressure.)

Yes, the photos in the camera found on the photographers body were widely published, some of the most famous images of the eruption.
