One of my favorite books for considerations of space travel was the Depths Of Time set by Roger MacBride Allen, Which had slowboats with horribly expensive to construct wormhole *time*gates. So the trip still takes decades of travel-time (sleeper crew variant), but the trip begins and ends at the same date. It had the distinction of exploring a good fraction of the ramifications of a rarely considered method without ever going cliche and sending anyone back in time.
That and the Commonwealth Saga by Peter F. Hamilton, just because the concept of a *literal* interstellar railroad amuses me.
