Also, "Peaches from the Tree of Heaven" has just been nominated for The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror, a yearly compendium of the best in fantastic fiction, edited by Ellen Datlow, Kelly Link, and Gavin J. Grant.
Squeeee!
Okay, so it's always exciting when people fall in love with my work, especially when it gets nominated for awards. But I'm especially delighted that this story is generating extra attention so that more people will see it. "Peaches from the Tree of Heaven" is intended to make people think, and to start conversations; it raises more questions than it answers. That's what made it appeal to me enough to write it down, and I'm glad that it has the same effect on other people. Some stories I write mainly for entertainment; others are intended as an entertaining way to approach touchy subjects. This is one of the latter. It'll stand up to a deep discussion; there's enough there to really sink your teeth into.
