It's sad that the Republican party has gone from a respectable and respectful political party into a band of domestic terrorists. It's even sadder that no one is arresting them and detaining them at Guantanimo for their crimes.

It is even sadder that so many of the democrats choose to blame the actions of a schizophrenic leftist on the words of an uninvolved Alaskan politician.

No, this had nothing whatever to do with "right wing rhetoric". You attempts to blame it on it... I don't even know what to say to democrats anymore. I am not sure that there remains any room for reconciliation when you do things like suggesting that we be imprisoned for stating our opinions.

Why have you done this?

If you could see the look on my face... pity, mixed with confusion. Sarah Palin has been running her mouth incessantly about "second ammendment solutions" and putting up a website listing people she wants others to shoot, and you are seriously buying her lies that it was a leftist who did the shooting? You disgust me.

1) It was not Palin that made the "second amendment solutions" remark, it was Sharon angle.

2) Sarah palin has *never* said anything about "killing her oponents"

3) Well, I guess that's it then, you have foreclosed all possibility of reconciliation, you have drawn a line in the sand.

4) I base the statement that he was a leftist on the fact that his close friends *said* that he was, nothing whatever to do with Palin.

5) There is no connection of any kind whatsoever between the deranged shooter and Palin.


You guys should really think about what you are doing here, if you think that the occasional gun metaphor was bad, it was *nothing* compared to what you are using here. You actually SAID that I should be in *gitmo*. Do you really see a way back from this? Do you really not see that it is *you* that has made the rhetoric go insane?

You sure have some nerve saying our side is the one drawing the line in the sand when your side is the one calling for assassinations and shootings and carrying a bunch of racist signs. The Right started this shit, not the Left.

Riiiight. And I suppose you're going to claim that this Angle person is the one who owns the website with all the targets and names.

You know what, whatever. Sharon Angle, Sarah Palin, whatever. They're all butt-buddies, cut from the same cloth, wanting the same thing. And the depth of my confusion and upset at how anyone can support any of them or their lies is just as deep as the confusion and upset at people who support known serial murderers.

And maybe gitmo is a bit harsh. But whatever, they're domestic terrorists. Whatever we do with terrorists, that's what should be done with them. Because that's what they are. And anyone who thinks otherwise is either delusional or in league with them.

From what I understand, the guy who shot her was an anti-Semite who was into reading Communist tracts. There's no evidence at all he was a Republican conservative anything.

I am really disappointed that all my friends are immediately assuming something about his motives. When the Muslim shooter at that military base did that shooting, everyone counseled patience and to wait to prove out his motives. One guy shoots a Democratic representative and a conservative judge and immediately it's a right-wing nut, even though he talks about Communism on his website?

The guy is not a right-winger. He was just insane. And Democrats no less than Republicans are responsible for the inflammatory and divisive environment we're seeing in politics today. And the media too. If I could fire them all, I would.

Things have gone *so* insane about this. and I agree, his motivations were more likely to be related to alien invasion than healthcare. I am just having trouble with the hatred that is being spewed my way in the last few days. It does not fill me with warm fuzzies. I am really at a loss for knowing how to deal civilly with those that are calling for my imprisonment.

Me too. The first thing I saw about this on twitter was a woman I think of rather well saying 'See, GOP, you finally got what you wanted.'

I thought what I wanted was fiscal responsibility, greater state than federal power, and less government over all?

What if this is what the shooting was supposed to do? Turn us against each other? Why are people taking the bait? I am very disappointed and disheartened.

I haven't come to a firm conclusion about the shooter yet.

Okay. Well, he got alcohol poisoning a few years back and was described by his classmates as a pothead, so the central point of the article, that substance abuse is a better indicator works too. Point is, there is no reason to think that "rhetoric" played any part at all.

Just because someone decides to solve their problems with violence doesn't necessarily make them crazy. It's actually a prevailing trait of American culture -- we just advocate verbal violence more than physical, and the physical violence is expected to limit itself within certain parameters.

Just after the news hit, one of the more insightful folks I read had predicted that people would try to blame this incident on liberals. Since liberals rarely advocate violence, I am unconvinced.

No. Liberals advocate violence all the time. More in fact than conservatives do, although fractionally. But that could just be perspectives. Anyway, the guy that was described by his classmates as a "left wing extremist", that was a 9-11 truther, etcetera, well... Lets just say that there is ample reason to think that he was not a mccain voter. How often do youy see Che t-shirts? Or Mao? Those are very specific endorsements of genocide and terrorism. Not seeing much in the way of mcveigh t-shirts.

All that said, he was an irrational mentally ill drug addict. Looking for coherent political beliefs will not likely be fruitfull.

I agree that a fair number of Republicans are troublesome in this regard. Not necessarily all of them, though. *sigh* I wish we could get the reasonable ones back.

While I wish that politicians would be punished when they commit crimes, I am firmly against the kind of prison that Guantanamo represents. Secrecy and torture are incompatible with justice.
