Poem: "Bittersweet Centers"

This poem came out of the October 5, 2010 Poetry Fishbowl.  It was inspired by a prompt from ladyqkat.  It was sponsored by laffingkat as part of the 2010 Holiday Poetry Sale.  Thank you and happy holidays!

Bittersweet Centers

To a psychic vampire,
a crowd of humans is like a box of chocolates.

You never know what you're going to get --
the sweet strawberry of affection,
the green mint of contemplation,
the spicy cardamom of desire,
the bitter coffee of regret,
the slow thick caramel of patience,
the creamy vanilla of innocence,
the biting cayenne of grief --

until you put one in your mouth
and let the candy shell melt away to reveal
the bittersweet center.

Reminds me of a song kengr played for me a few times about a vampire who runs a chocolate shop because he has a taste for the blood of people with a sweet tooth. :-D
