Just because they're a democracy...

... doesn't necessarily mean they like U.S. Pakistan's newly elected leadership has given American diplomats a frosty welcome. Pakistan has weathered some rough times, but right now they've got a strong civilian government that seems more interested in peace, in a region where aggressive military regimes are more fashionable. That's impressive. I hope they can hold onto it.

That is rather impressive.
I am not quite sure why our government seems to think that we are on such friendly terms with Pakistan. The way I see it, the relationship is tense and strained at best.
