Well that, and the demon may have different feelings, but they do have feelings. I've seen ample evidence. Even at his baddest, Spike "reeked" of humanity (according to The Judge). He and Drusilla seemed to be in a form of love, and may well have been. It was different from human love, because vampires are driven by their hungers, and Drusilla was insane. But love nonetheless.

That, and Spike was a poet in his human life. He had so much feeling as a human that some of it may have inadvertently crossed over to the vampire persona.
