Read My LiveJournal Feed

My Dreamwidth account is essentially a backup in case LiveJournal ever becomes nonfunctional.  A majority of my blogging is over on LJ, from which I post highlights here -- mostly my anchor posts.  There is a lot more that doesn't get transferred.  If you want to see the full LiveJournal feed on Dreamwidth, you can subscribe to it: http://ysabetwordsmith-lj-feed.dreamwidth.org/

I've added you to my DW circle.
Likewise
I keep hearing about this Dreamwidth thing. Pros and cons?
Pros:
Run by people who seem competent with computers and are not assholes.
User input is solicited and often applied.
Good sense of community.
Tolerably effective.

Cons:
Much smaller audience, less networked; it's harder to attract attention and build momentum on DW.
Not nearly as well developed as LiveJournal. I really, really miss the Semagic client functions.
Requires an account code from a current DW member to get in.

Dreamwidth is decent now. It seems to be the best of the LJ clones. It is slowly getting better; I suspect it will be quite good by the time it's done. Every time LJ does something epically stupid, DW gets a fresh surge of members. *ponder* I don't think I've ever seen anyone say "I'm quitting DW and moving to LJ." The flow seems to be all LJ > DW.

There are people who donate Dreamwidth codes to whom it might concern. There's a community for such codes on LJ; I don't remember its name.

Alternatively, one can pay at the beginning and then renew as a nonpaying member.
That's good to know.

Not being assholes is a good thing, although I get the impression that years ago the people at LJ were not assholes, so I can't tell if this is a condition that lasts once something gets reasonably popular.

I will keep it in mind.
The people who created LJ are no longer involved, far as I know -- it's been sold at least once. At least DW was designed as an alternative, looking at some bad examples (LJ not being the only blognet that people were annoyed with).
Right. And if Dreamwidth takes off and is sold, the same thing (or other annoying things) may happen.
At this point I'm posting on DM and copying to LJ; that seems easier than the reverse.

However, most comments and discussion remain on LJ.
