This poem was inspired by pocketnaomi and posted here in honor of her first appearance as a prompter. Woohoo! It's about sports divination by octopus.
Into the large saltwater tank,
the zookeeper tosses two glass cubes,
baited with mussel and flagged for each team,
to see which will get eaten first.
It's a simple prediction,
leading to the winner of the World Cup,
and although people may scoff,
it's surprisingly apt, though they don't know why.
Paul the Octopus
is secretly a soccer fan.
This was all his idea,
carefully arranged with the zookeeper.
There may be only one mussel
baiting each cube ...
Paul has a lot of clams
riding on those games.

What a great and timely prompt.
